50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE

On the 30th May 2009 the Auckland Harbour Bridge will have been open for 50 years! 

The bridge took four years to build with the work being undertaken jointly by Dorman Long (Bridge and Engineering) Ltd and Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Company Ltd.  It was officially opened on 30th May 1959 by the Governor-General Lord Cobham.

The 1955 edition of Dorman Long Illustrated highlighted the start of the building of the bridge on the cover of it's magazine.
